ജനീവ: കൊവിഡ് 19 എന്ന കൊറോണ വൈറസ് ബാധയെ ആഗോള മഹാമാരിയായി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ച് ലോകാരോഗ്യ സംഘടന. ലോകാരോഗ്യ സംഘടനാ മേധാവി ഡോ.ടെഡ്രോസ് അദാനോം ഗെബ്രയേസസാണ് പ്രഖ്യാപനം നടത്തിയത്. ലോകത്തിന്റെ വിവിധ ഭാഗങ്ങളില്‍ ആളുകളില്‍ നിന്ന് ആളുകളിലേക്ക് പകരുന്ന നിലയായതിനെ തുടര്‍ന്നാണ് പ്രഖ്യാപനം. ചൈനക്ക് പുറത്ത് കൊറോണ വ്യാപിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത് പതിമൂന്ന് മടങ്ങ് അധികമാണെന്നും ലോകാരോഗ്യ സംഘടന വ്യക്തമാക്കുന്നു.
നൂറിലധികം രാജ്യങ്ങളില്‍ അപകടകരമായ രീതിയിലാണ് വൈറസ് പടര്‍ന്ന് പിടിക്കുന്നത്. ആഗോള മഹാമാരിയെന്ന പേര് ഉപയോഗിക്കണമോയെന്ന കാര്യത്തില്‍ ആഴ്ചകളായി നടന്ന ആലോചനയ്ക്ക് ഒടുവിലാണ് തീരുമാനം.
വൈറസിനെതിരായ വിവിധ രാജ്യങ്ങളുടെ ചെറുത്ത് നില്‍പ്പില്‍ ഒരു തരത്തിലുമുള്ള കുറവ് വരരുതെന്ന നിര്‍ദേശത്തോടെയാണ് പ്രഖ്യാപനം. 2009ല്‍ നിരവധിപ്പേരുടെ ജീവന്‍ അപഹരിച്ച പന്നിപ്പനി(എച്ച്1 എന്‍1) ഇതിന് മുന്‍പ് ലോകാരോഗ്യ സംഘടന ആഗോള മഹാമാരിയായി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചിരുന്നു.
